Bibliographic details:
Like earlier volumes in this series, it was probably originally sold as 'The Spiritual Magazine' in parts of 8 or 16pp. with one part (pp. 73-104) apparently of 32 pp. There are c. 33 parts. These parts are not numbered or dated. However, if the first part was published in January 1763, and the parts were published monthly, the final part would have been issued in September 1765. This coincides with the ODNB's account of Dutton's failing health: she became increasingly ill in October 1765, and died in November 1765. However, one of the poems in the penultimate part (pp. 305-312) is dated Nov. 1765 (p. 309) which suggests the part was published after Dutton's death. QUERY: There are is nothing at the end of the final part in the ECCO copy to indicate, conclusively, that this is the final part of the magazine - it's possible that there are future parts that have not been included here. Do other versions of this have further parts?
Comments:
Contents: each part contains a range of material particularly verse; religious oriented prose; letters from correspondents. Dates: though the titlepage is dated 1763 several poems are dated 1764 (p. 239) and 1765 (p. 268, 309), suggesting that the parts of this volume were issued at least over a three year period. This fits with the hypothesis (under bibliographical details) that the final part of The
