Genres:
Collection of 17th century verse and Miscellany dominated by poet
Format:
Octavo
Pagination:
[34] 1-134, [2] pp. (not including plates)
Bibliographic details:
This miscellany is divided into two volumes (although this is not stated on the titlepage). The first volume contains Rochester's poems; the second has a new title page, begins pagination again from p.1., and contains poems by Roscommon and other hands. Both volumes contain an alphabetical table of contents at their close. Although Suarez and the ESTC list this miscellany as 'in two parts' rather than volumes, it is here entered as two separate volumes. Plates: Frontispiece engraving of the Earl of Rochester. Pasted down stub between pp. 38-39 (D3-D4) in Bod Harding C65; possible that D6 is a cancel?
Comments:
Attributions: All works in the 'Miscellaneous Works...[of] Rochester' have been treated as attributed to Rochester and described as 'Collected under Rochester's name'.
Other matter:
Prefatory matter: 'The Memoirs of the Life of John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester' by Monsieur St. Evremond in a letter to the Duchess of Mazarin [32 pp.]; there is a preface preceding the third collection of verse by Roscommon and others, written by Roscommon. End matter: Table of contents, [2pp.]
